Meet 'Berry' the Ruthwell Cross Mouse, we held a competition through local Primary Schools to name this little character. Out of 120 entries, Millie aged 8 from Carrutherstown Primary School was the winner and recieved a Stieff Mouse, book tokens and winners certificate. Berry will be used in developing our future material for children.

The inaugural event for The Ruthwell Cross Society took place on Friday 11th September at the Hetland Hall Hotel and featured a dinner followed by a keynote address by Professor Jane Geddes, British Art Historian and Academic. The keynote talk highlighted many interesting facts about the origins and reliefs on the Anglo-Saxon Cross.
The same weekend there was a special service in Ruthwell Church on the Sunday, which
welcomed a full colour painted plaster cast of the Cross. The service was led by Rev. Dr. Robert Pickles and Parish Minister Rev. John Pickles. The congregation heard about the history of the recovery of the original cross by Rev. Henry Duncan Smith and the story of how the painted copy came into being. The replica is currently being restored section by section and once complete this copy will be displayed in the Church.

We have been fortunate enough to have been donated, by Leeds Museum, a full size plaster cast of The Ruthwell Cross. The cast has been painted to represent how it is believed to have looked when it was first erected.
The cast has been in storage for a few years and we are undertaking repairs to the paintwork and will be displaying the sections of the cast in the Church as the work is completed.
